Match Report:

The Vikings opened the game up by kicking down field to the bulldogs 

Home side.

 

The second game of the Northern Rail Cup for the Widnes Vikings showed some challenge at Mount Pleasant. Batley’s slopping pitch seemed to get the better of them in the first half, but the Widnes side hit back to get a draw of 30-30 to add two points to the table to try and keep the northern rail cup and get to the finial at Blackpool for the second year.

 

Barley’s first try came from Lee Greenwood scored after a kick was put in and Gareth Moore adding the extras to get the scoring up at 6-0. Vikings got their try in the 14th minute when Lee Doran went over, adding the extra was Shane Grady to get the score at 6-6.

 

The bulldog’s got their second try, this time it was from when Johnny Campbell scored, and adding the extras again was Gareth Moore. Batley’s James Martin produced a try in the 21st minute with the number Gareth Moore adding the extras again.

 

Vikings hit back when Ben Kavanagh went over in the corner, sadly Grady missed the conversion to get the score 18-10. Just after this, the home side, Batley Bulldog’s scored with Lee Greenwood with Gareth Moore adding the extras to get the score 24-10

 

Vikings managed to get some more points on the board just before half time with Ben Kavanagh hitting back in the corner in the 40th minute, Grady adding the extras 24-16.

Batley got the first try of the second half in the 50th minute when a kick down field gave Johnny Campbell a try, Gareth Moore adding extras to up their lead to 30-16.

 

Vikings hit back when Thackeray put a kick into the corner for Shaun Ainscough to score the Widnes side a try.

 

In the 60th minute Thackeray got a yellow card for a dangerous affiance and had to leave the pitch

 

Vikings Shaun Ainscough scored again in the 69th minute to close the gap 30-24. Vikings Thackeray scored on the 77th minute, with Grady converting this got the score even at 30-30.
