Match Report:

 

Widnes Vikings took on ST Helens at the Stobart stadium Halton on Tuesday 19th January for the Karalius cup.

 

Sadly, Toa Kohe Love was injured with a hamstring problem in the warm up and was replaced by Dean Thompson,

 

The VIkings had they new gold kit due to colour clash, but for the first time as a new team this season they played some golden tries.

 

ST Helens kick the ball off at the Stobart Stadium to get the 2010 Karalius cup match underway.

 

The first try to be scored on the pitch in 2010 came from St Helens player Gray Wheeler after a goal line drop out was given and then a team mate put the kick for the number 6 to score the first try in the 6th minute of the game. Followed in the 9th minute when Jamie Foster got his try for the saints and also converted to get the away side in the lead at 0-10.

 

Within the time before the 18th minute mark came, both Bryn Hargraves and Chris Dean scored tries to get the St Helens team in the lead at 0-22.

 

The first Vikings try came shortly after in the 26th minute when Dean Thompson went over the line, and for the first time this season the conversion was produced by Shane Grady to put the home side on the score board at 6-22.

 

Just after in the 30th minute Dean Thompson scored his second try of the night, with Shane Grady adding the extra this got the Vikings up to 12-22. St Helens hit back in the 35th minute this time Tom Armstrong putting the ball down, with no successful conversion this put the score at 12-26.

 

Still time for the Vikings to get a try before half time, Anthony Thackeray getting the ball over the line in the 38th minute at with Shane Grading adding the extras this left the score at 18-26 at half time.

 

The second half opened up, and within 1 minute of kick off Matt Strong scored the Vikings a try. Just after the saints hit back with Gary Wheeler going over in the 44th minute and the extra added by Jamie Foster with his successful conversion put the score at 22-32.

 

Saints managed to get another try in the 52nd minute from there new signing on day view, Sia Soliola and put the score at 22-36. The Vikings got a penalty in the 58th minute of play and from this a try from Thomas Coyle came after a kick into the corner. The saints got the last try of the game in the 78th minute from Jamie Ellis and was successfully converted by Jamie Foster the leave the score final at Widnes Vikings 26 vs St Helens 42.
